AP3C Architects has received two prestigious design awards.
Prince Music Theater
AP3C was awarded a Building Excellence Award for Best Restoration/Renovation Project by the Philadelphia Business Journal for their renovation of the abandoned Metro Theaters on Chestnut Street into the Prince Music Theater.
Transforming a dual-screen movie project theater into a facility capable of live stage performances, live music performances and projection movie events was a daunting task. AP3C was recognized for their ability to produce a project that balanced refined design with technical expertise. A highly refined entranceway leads to a minimalist seating area that has superb sightlines and acoustics. The extraordinarily deep and complex fly loft is carefully positioned to maintain a performer-to-audience connection. Ample dressing space, rehearsal rooms and a black box theater enhance the Theater’s ability to obtain commitments from unique and sought-after talents. The Theater’s unique canopy and lobby design provide for a grand entertaining space which makes the facility a favorite for movie premiers.
The Gift of Life Donor Program
AP3C was awarded a 2005 Building Excellence Award for Best Institutional Project by the GBCA for their renovation and expansion of the abandoned Adams Warehouse at 3rd and Callowhill Streets into the Corporate Headquarters for the Gift of Life Donor Program.
AP3C provided comprehensive services from site analysis/selection to architectural and interior design on this 100,000 square foot multi use complex. Positioning the new lobby space at an angle to take advantage of the southern views, the 4th floor balcony offers a 180-degree vista that reaches from Camden to the Center City Skyline.
Working against a tight timeline and subsurface conditions, AP3C spearheaded the efforts to design, document and construct the facility in 24 months. The team-oriented approach was recognized for strategic decisions to create separate construction packages, lock in of steel, elevators and other long lead time items and maintain schedule and design intent.
The combination of materials, building volumes and siting allows the building to relate to the urban context around it, enhances the surrounding properties and allows for the Gift of Life Donor Program to quietly announce their commitment to the region.
